Fishing in Lake Michigan

This page is mainly about pier and breakwater fishing at Waukegan, but includes information on other local and Chicago area fishing sites.

The fishing at Waukegan usually gets underway around the third week of March and lasts until the end of December. It's almost too cold (except for the most hardy) to fish during the other months of the year. Also, fishing from the shore, pier or breakwater may not produce but Charter Boats are always available to help you catch fish. A lot of people that fish the shoreline stop when the salmon and trout stop, but it's a big mistake to forget about the Yellow Perch which are always fun to catch on light line. Additionally, although not well known, Lake Michigan has a nice Bass (Large and Smallmouth) population.
